Booker T. Washington said . . .

"There is another class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs -- partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs....There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who do not want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public."

Could he possibly have had premonitions about people such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton?

Bronze is still sick

He awoke at about 0300 with an earache and much congestion. He took some OTC decongestant, and went back to bed. He has a doctor's appointment, tomorrow.

It was an uneventful holiday. It rained early this morning, but dried out pretty well. Shirley worked until a little after 1700. We did the 'grill out' thing. It was WONDERFUL! I LOVE eating home cooked food (especially grilled), and she made a great tasting salad.

I hope everyone else's Memorial Day was safe, and I hope you remembered what the day was truly about.

"Start your engines!"

And, with that, the running of the 2005 Indy 500 begins. This is the 89th running of the Indianapolis 500.
You can listen to it live, at this link:

Well, that didn't quite work out.

Turns out Bronze is feeling pretty lousy. I think he caught the cold that seems to be going around. We encouraged him to stay home and go to bed (it didn't take much encouragement, actually).
He did go to work this morning, but I'm sure he's feeling like crap. But, he is dedicated to his job.

"Just us time"

Jessica is on her way to Kentucky with my mom and dad, Bronze is seeing his girlfriend, and its just me and shirley. We should get plenty of sleep.

DOT Physical, today

And, I'm over 40, so guess what that included? I've never had a prostate exam, before. I understand they're very important, but, DANG, what an invasive exam . . .

The good news is that I'm very healthy. Got my CDL "B" permit, so I'm that much closer to getting my CDL.

End of the day

There are times when the end of the day is ALL too welcome. This is one of those days. I'm still looking for work, and it gets disappointing, sometimes. But, I'm not dead, yet! See you, tomorrow.

Mornings are just nice.

It's great to have weather nice enough to enjoy an early morning walk through the neighborhood.

Seatbelt checks

Wow, what a waste of $$. Seatbelt checkpoints EVERYWHERE around here. 5-10 cops at a checkpoint. Boy, I know I feel safer in MY neighborhood knowing that there are extra patrols. .. oh, wait, they're not patrolling. They're sitting at intersections flagging major seatbelt criminals down to write tickets. .. Eh, here goes a call to my state Senator. . .

A neighborhood walk

I took my Sony Mavica with me on a walk through the neighborhood today. I ended up at a little family graveyard that's down the street from me. The markers haven't been kept up very diligently. I decided to take pictures of them. Who knows, someday the pictures might be useful. Click on the images for a larger view.

REAL Mobile blogging LOL

I'm at my wife's work, with the notebook and my cell phone (using it as a modem), making this entry. Why, you may ask? Just because I can! Isn't technology wonderful?

Interesting radio

If you get a chance, take a listen at RBNLive. There is some interesting stuff out there . . .

CDL test

Oh, yeah, I passed the General Knowledge and Air Brakes tests. So, now, all I need is my DOT physical to get my permit. Once I have that, I can take a Skills test. When I pass that, I'll have a Commercial Driver License. Yay! LOL!

At the Bureau of Motor Vehicles

Here to take the written tests for a CDL, class B.

I had an internet disruption last night, so I didn't get to post anything else until now.
What's up with the gas prices? When we went out yesterday morning, regular was $1.829/gallon. When we came home last night, it was up to $2.059/gallon. This is silly!

Added a visitor counter

Ok, ok, another 'addition'. There's a webcounter in the sidebar, now, too.

A guest book

Well, one can just make this blog SO special LOL! I found a guest book provider, which provides guestbooks for people's sites. SOOOOO, I added one to the sidebar (it's right under the moon phase display).

If you don't feel like leaving comments about my posts, PLEASE at least sign my guest book when you come by. It's nice to know people are looking. Thanks.

My geocities. pages

I added a link in the sidebar to my geocities pages. There you can find some additional photos. There's one set of photos there that SBC (your not-so-local phone company) DOESN'T want you to see. Please let me know of you visit my geocities pages. Thanks.

Your Political Profile

It's fun to surf other blogs. I was surfing around and came across a blog that contained a little interactive survey, "YOUR POLITICAL PROFILE". You can answer the questions (although the answers are obviously slanted toward the liberal side of the spectrum), and it produces a "profile" of how you hang, politically. I have included it in my sidebar (to the right, for those in Rio Linda). You are welcome to click the link below my profile, and try it yourself. Once you are done, it will create a bit of HTML code that you can include on your own blog/webpage/whathaveyou.

Our new neighbors

We have new neighbors. They bought a house that was, essentially, abandoned. They have worked hard over the past few weeks and brought it back to fine shape. Here are some shot from today. (Click on the images for larger views).

Good news!

Phantom is negative for heartworm, so we started him on monthly preventative. That's one worry out of the way.

Phantom to the vet

We're taking Phantom to the vet for a heartworm test.

Early morning walk

Shirley wasn't feeling well this morning (dental surgery), so I took Phantom for his morning walk. I decided to shoot a few pictures of the neighborhood with my Sony Clie NX70V/U (that's what I use to shoot most of the more recent pictures you see on this blog, as I lost my digital Kodak).

Phantom stopped to greet a neighbor along the way

And, now, for the bad news . . .

The vet says that both of the dogs are postive for heartworm :(
So, that's 3 of our dogs that either have to be treated, or face certain death. This is not a good day.

Off to the vet

First groom

The dog just got home from Shirley's first groom. Here are a few pics.

This is Amber, the manager at Shirley's salon.

Stay tuned as things develop.
